European Games to play positive role in bringing closer Azerbaijani, Armenian peoples – top official

The First European Games will play a positive role in brining closer the peoples of Azerbaijan and Armenia.

Ali Hasanov, the Azerbaijani president’s aide for public and political affairs, made the remarks Thursday during the press conference of the Presidential Administration and the Ministry of Youth and Sports on the First European Games with the participation of the local and foreign media representatives.

Hasanov said that the people in Armenia have become the hostage of the separatist-minded persons in the country.

“For 25 years, a million of people have been living as refugees and displaced persons, the four UN resolutions on liberation of the territories occupied by Armenia remain unfulfilled. Other international organizations also support the resolution of the conflict within the territorial integrity and protection of human rights of people in Nagorno-Karabakh. Unfortunately, due to the Armenia's non-constructive approach, the conflict has not yet been resolved and remains a threat for not only the regional security but also the security of the world. We have declared that if the conflict was turned a blind eye, a chain of conflicts will emerge. Today, the developments in Ukraine and the Balkans show that it’s dangerous to play with separatism. As long as the Nagorno-Karabakh problem exists, one cannot talk about the restoration of peace in the region and the world,” the top official added.
