“Yesterday, on July 20, a meeting was held between the General Director of the International Atomic Energy Agency Rafael Grossi and the representative of Azerbaijan to Vienna-based international organizations, ambassador Galib Ismayilov”, said Leyla Abdullayeva, Spokesperson of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) of the Republic of Azerbaijan at a press conference held today, APA reports.
L. Abdullayeva said during the meeting it was delivered to the attention of the opposite side by Azerbaijan’s ambassador that in recent times, the wide speculative information around the issue of the Metsamor Atomic Power Station (APS) has been disseminated by Armenia, and in fact, thereby Armenia has attempted to distract the attention of the international community from Armenia’s aggressive policy, keeping under occupation by Armenia of the internationally recognized territories of Azerbaijan, and the fact of implementation of ethnic cleansing against the population living on those territories: “It was especially noted that in fact the issue related to the Metsamor APS was raised just in response to the issue of targeting of Azerbaijan’s Mingechevir Hydroelectric Power Station in Armenia’s mass media. This information was brought to the notice of the General Director of the International Atomic Energy Agency. During the meeting, the issue of a comprehensive evaluation of the security status of the Metsamor APS itself was also raised with the International Atomic Energy Agency because this APS with its outdated infrastructure, being the most outdated and unreliable station on the territory of the former Soviet Union, is the source of danger for the whole region”.
“Especially has been noted that in fact, the issue regarding Metsamor has been raised as a response to the issue in Armenian media regarding the targeting of Mingachevir Hydro Power Station of Azerbaijan. This information has been brought to the Director-General of the International Atomic Energy Agency’s attention. The issue of a comprehensive evaluation of the security status of Metsamor itself has also been raised in front of the International Atomic Energy Agency. Because this Nuclear power plant with its outdated infrastructure, being the oldest and unreliable in the Soviet Union, is a threat source for all the region.”
